Support LAS at Upcoming Events

September is going to be a busy month for HIV/AIDS awareness here in the Lowcountry!

As we celebrate the Charleston Pride Festival and more this month, we reflect on the impact HIV/AIDS has had on gay men. We’re encouraging gay/bisexual men to visit LAS for a free, confidential HIV test.

In the month of September, every gay/bisexual man who comes in for a HIV test will be entered into a weekly drawing. Each week, we’ll select a winner who will receive a bag of goodies from our friends at Generation X, as well as a $25 Walmart gift card. At the end of the month, one lucky winner will receive a $100 Walmart gift card. Testing hours are Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; no appointment needed.

Charleston will be celebrating Pride, starting Sept. 16 and culminating with the Pride Parade and Festival on Saturday Sept. 23. LAS staff will be grand marshals at this year’s parade.

Red Ribbon 5K and AIDS WalkAlso, on Sept. 16, LAS and the Ryan White Wellness Center will once again join forces to host the Red Ribbon 5K & AIDS Walk at Wannamaker County Park in North Charleston. There is still time to register for the event, featuring a timed 5K race on a certified course along the trails of the county park as well as a free AIDS Walk. The race begins at 10 a.m. followed by a family friendly health and wellness fair, games and music by DJ Lonatron and acoustic duo Oh Valentino.

Support our work here in the Charleston community on Lowcountry Giving Day on Sept. 19. This day of giving highlights Lowcountry nonprofits and encourages everyone to make a contribution to a charity of their choice. Come by Joe Riley Stadium for a Lowcountry Giving Day with 140 nonprofits, live music and activities. We’d love to see you in person as you make your donation or simply give online.

We’re back for beers on Sept. 29 as we partner with LO-Fi Brewing for our next Pint of Hope. Come out from 4-8 p.m. and $1 from each pint purchased will be donated to our agency. Cheers!
