African American Men
Lowcountry AIDS Services has launched exciting new outreach support programs directed toward African-American men who have sex with men.
"MANY MEN/ MANY VOICES" (3MV) is a CDC approved group level intervention designed to increase awareness and consciousness about issues affecting gay and bisexual men of color. To meet this challenge Lowcountry AIDS Services conducts a series of (3) three-day seminars covering six topics:
- Dual Identities of Black men
- Sex Roles-Tops and Bottoms
- Cultural Expectations
- Relationships - Changing Behavior & Negotiation
- STD and HIV
- Risk Reduction Options - Building Self- Esteem.
Group discussions, interactive exercises and role playing are utilized in building and developing skills in behavior negotiation and sex education. Participants are able to express themselves in an open and free non-judgmental environment, which they would not have been able to with family and friends. Exit interviews and surveys indicate that this program is not only successful but is an integral part of the dynamic positive innovations taking place at Lowcountry AIDS Services.
